Taking you deeper into the dark, under cover of darkness

No matter whom you like on Tuesday's ballot, you have to like that the public is paying attention. People everywhere are talking about representation, policy and truth -- their version of it, anyway. Here in Minnesota, where we pride ourselves in our commitment to open government, we like to think that we're more interested, and better informed, than most.

So it's a shame that the assault on the public's access to government marches on.

The latest volley was a doozy, a law passed literally in the dark of night that restricts the media's access (read, public's access) to polling places.

Passing laws in the middle of the night is one way Minnesota's legislature is being patriotic by following federal Congress practice.
